Cynical Hope: Faith and Grace

Speaker: Reid S. Monaghan Series: Cynical Hope Topic: Topical Passage: Romans 5:2–5:2

Message Abstract

There are many things which we must understand in order to have God as the foundation for hope in our lives.  First, we must have peace with God which is brought through the work of Jesus on our behalf.  Second, we obtain access through faith into a grace in which we stand with God.  A confident, full person, trust in Jesus gives us access to the Father and places us into a relationship with God.

Faith is putting our ultimate trust in Jesus and therefore deriving hope from his promises rather than the tumultuous circumstances of life.

'Tis faith that changes all the heart;
'Tis faith that works by love;
That bids all sinful joys depart,
And lifts the thoughts above.

'Tis faith that conquers earth and hell
By a celestial power;
This is the grace that shall prevail
In the decisive hour.

Isaac Watts – Hymn 140
