Community Meditation

Growing in Knowledge

  • Read all of Romans chapter 1. What do you think about when you hear of the phrase “the wrath of God”? Read Romans 5:1-11. What are we saved from? What does it mean for us to once have been “enemies” of God?
  • Discuss the following statement from JI Packer’s Knowing God “Were I asked to focus the New Testament message in three words, my proposal would be adoption through propitiation, and I do not expect ever to meet a richer or more pregnant summary of the gospel than that.”

Feeling Life Deeply

  • Listen to the song “The Power of the Cross” by Keith and Kristyn Getty (on iTunes, YouTube, etc.) Meditate on the great sacrifice Jesus made while listening. My kids call this the song “that always makes Dad cry.”

Living with Courage

  • Think about the costly nature of forgiveness. Jesus absorbed the wrath of God, paid our debts...someone pays. How do we live like this with one another in community? How is it costly for us to forgive each other? Read Tim Keller’s article “Serving Each Other Through Forgiveness and Reconciliation“ http://theresurgence.com/files/2011/04/10/Keller-Forgiveness_and_Reconciliation.pdf
