Community Meditation

Know

  • Read Romans 10:11-17. Paul speaks a lot about hearing, speaking and preaching. What is the significance of language in this passage? How does it relate to the theme of building that we have been discussing throughout our current series on James? How might we apply this personally, as families and in our Missional Communities?
  • Read Ephesians 5:1-21. What is the significance of how we use our language as explained by the Apostle Paul in this passage? By submitting ourselves to these commands, how might this impact our relationships with one another? How might this affect our witness as a community (think through this in regards to our Missional Communities specifically)?

Feel

  • Living in community, whether that is in families, dorm rooms, missional communities, can oftentimes be difficult. It is typically within these contexts that we sometimes let our tongues off the leash. How have you caused damage to your community by speaking in a way that dishonors God? What do you need to do to make this right? Who do you need to speak with to ask for forgiveness? Maybe it is an individual, or maybe it is an entire community.

Live

  • Consider how you might, as a missional community, family, husband/wife, implement what Paul calls us to in Ephesians 5:19, 20. What are some specific things you and your community can do to live out these commands?
  • With your missional communities, talk about how abuses of language have impacted the community, and how rightful, God glorifying uses of language have impacted the community. Learn from this and make the necessary changes to move forward in forgiveness and repentance.
